چکیده

The literature on gas phase nucleophilic substitution reactions at aliphatic carbon has been reviewed. The emphasis has been on journal articles published in the period 1990–2001. The present review outlines our current understanding of concepts such as potential energy surfaces, structure–energy relationships, microsolvation, and dynamical and mechanistic details based on both experimental and theoretical evidence. The accuracy of various theoretical schemes for calculating potential energy surfaces has been assessed. A critical account on mechanistic concepts used in the literature is given. Inversion versus retention of configuration for nucleophilic substitution at vinylic carbon.

A high-level computational study using CCSD, CCSD(T), and G2(+) levels of theory has shown that unactivated vinyl substrates such as vinyl chloride would afford gas phase, single-step halide exchange by a pure in-plane sigma-approach of the nucleophile to the backside of the C--Cl sigma bond. Geometry optimization by CCSD/6-31+G* and CCSD(T)/6-31+G* confirms the earlier findings of Glukhovtsev,...

An Effective Green Procedure for the Synthesis of Phenacyl Derivatives Catalyzed by Silica-bound 3-{2-[Poly(ethylene glycol)]ethyl}-substituted 1-Methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium Bromide as a Recyclable Phase Transfer Catalyst under Aqueous Media

The use of a recyclable phase transfer catalyst, SiO2-PEG-ImBr, is demonstrated in a simple and highly efficient synthesis of phenacyl derivatives by nucleophilic substitution reaction of phenacyl halides with different anions in water. Advantages of this system are easy work-up, moderate to good yields, and recyclable catalyst. The catalyst can be recycled and reused several times with no loss...

The loss of carbon dioxide from activated perbenzoate anions in the gas phase: unimolecular rearrangement via epoxidation of the benzene ring.

The unimolecular reactivities of a range of perbenzoate anions (X-C6H5CO3-), including the perbenzoate anion itself (X = H), nitroperbenzoates (X = para-, meta-, ortho-NO2), and methoxyperbenzoates (X = para-, meta-OCH3) were investigated in the gas phase by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. The collision-induced dissociation mass spectra of these compounds reveal product ions c...

Local Density Functional Electronic Structures of Three Stable Icosahedral Fullerenes

a distinctive and general feature of gas-phase aromatic substitution, occurs only in those cases where the electrophile fulfils certain requirements. Paramount among the latter seem to be the presence of H atoms carrying a substantial fraction of the positive charge, capable of establishing localized H bonds with the unshared electrons of the substituent, as well as a suitable geometry of the c...

A Novel and Efficient Synthesis of New Dixanthones

The facile and high yield synthesis of a new series of dibenzophenones in the presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) together with their cyclization to corresponding moni and dixanthones are described. The aromatic nucleophilic substitution of these new compounds are also studied.
